My retainer is hurting?

Hi, I just got my retainer on yesterday. Ive been wearing it, but the bump metal part on the front of my retainer has been digging into my gum. -----U------U----- (pretend that was on my teeth, and one of the bumps is digging into my gum.) It really hurts, but I dont want to take my retainer off. It has already left an imprint in my gum, and i figured out this was because the metal was bent in a certain way that it was digging into my gum. I think I could bend it back with a pair of pliers in the meantime... until my next ortho appt which we just sceduled for in couple of days... help? should i bend it back?
